This special Maslenitsa for New Year's has a hidden coin, said to bring good fortune for the coming year to the one who finds it. It is a similar tradition to the Western European King Cake, but in savory, cheesy form.
This rustic, savory pastry is made with hand-pulled, slightly yeasted phyllo dough and filled with a feta, ricotta and eggs. Brushed with butter on top before baked until golden. This Maslenitsa is perfect to have on hand as a light snack or lunch to feed guests as an appetizer or side to go with the holiday meal.
